The Little Things

Stay in comfort in our lovely vacation rental home and use it as your home base while you explore Acadia National Park! Details here.

.

While everyone else is looking up and around at the hugely captivating scenery, make sure YOU look down for the little, natural treasures that others miss, like this vernal, mini-waterfall I seek out every Spring on Grindstone Point in Winter Harbor. (I like to pretend that I'm the only who knows about it, but I'm happy to share it with you.)

You, too, will be mesmerized by the soothing sight and sound of the water gliding over the granite into a tiny pool, then making its way over rock and through crevices, toward the surf farther down the granite shore. While everyone else is gazing out to sea,  you can enjoy The Little Things.

For more insider tips and information to make the most of your visit to the Acadia National Park region during any season, book your stay in our vacation rental home in Winter Harbor, Maine, home of the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park, and the fabulous NEW hiking, biking, cross-country skiing trails at Schoodic Woods! There are miles and miles of hiking and biking trails in the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park, ranging from super easy to challenging, but sometimes it's too cold, too rainy, too snowy or too hot to get out and walk or hike, or maybe a physical ailment makes it difficult to get around... Well, fear not! The Schoodic Loop offers spectacular views visible from your vehicle.

.

The Schoodic section of Acadia National Park in Winter Harbor, Maine, is a place where you can still reap plenty of enjoyment right from the seat of your vehicle.

.

The Schoodic Loop road (entrance less than a mile from the house) provides many opportunities for viewing dramatic scenery without any more legwork than it takes to use the gas and brake pedals. I don't know of any other route on the northeast coast that provides as many miles of direct, bold oceanfront road, with countless vistas of the rockbound coast of Maine.

.

In order to demonstrate this, when my husband and I stayed at the Winter Harbor house October 28 - Nov. 3, I drove the Schoodic Loop with my camera and stopped to take photos ONLY FROM INSIDE THE CAR. The following photos were taken from inside my car during two different days, while driving the Schoodic Loop road.

Enjoy these shots of the beautiful scenery available during all 4 seasons and without physical exertion! (My camera is a simple Nikon Coolpix pocket camera.) Click each photo for a larger view. Check back for more and better photos after our next visit.
