Porcupine! Get up close and personal, but not too close!

One of my favorite routines whenever we're able to stay at the lovely Winter Harbor vacation rental house is, each evening at dusk, to drive just under two miles to one of our favorite spots, Frazer Point oceanside picnic area (inside the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park) to see if I can spot any porcupines.

One afternoon, while picnicking and enjoying a marshmallow roast with our daughters and grandchildren, we watched a very young porcupine ambling about just inside the wooded area next to our table. The sight of two young boys running toward him drove the little fella up a tree, where he perched safely, just about 10 feet from the ground. He stayed there - apparently undaunted by the attention - for as along as we hung out enjoying the sight of him.

The video I've included here is from one of my encounters with a porcupine at Frazer Point. I really did get this close!
